It's all about the Jellinek Curve
We believe addiction to drugs and alcohol is a life-long disease that potentially and in fact afflicts some 20% of the world population. This means 20% of the people will have an exagerrated response to any form of substance abuse because of their addictive gene that is often inherited, if not from one or both parents, certainly from other members of the family. There are some environmental factors too, though they should not be over emphasised, that can and do catalyze/ tip-over an alcoholic or drug addict into full blown loss of control through substance abuse.
Addiction to any substance, or negative behaviour patterns exhibited by this category of person, can only be managed with total abstinence for a life span, but essentially one-day-at-a-time.
Any exceptions made by an addict in recovery will result in an abject relapse with frightening speed and intensity, 100% of the time!
This then, after all, is the difference between addicts and other people who can self-correct and remain functional, despite their own substance abuse.
Fortuntely, during the rehabilitation process, the addict is sensitised to the nature of his/her problem and the remedy that he/she must commit to.

RAMAWELLNESS has been renamed SAFE HOUSE
RAMAWELLNESS, our centre at Asola near Shani Dham in South Delhi has been renamed SAFE HOUSE WELLNESS RETREAT to avoid being mistaken for other alcohol and drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres with a name similar to ours. Our earlier RAMAWELLNESS blogspot has been amended to reflect the name change. In future however, all posts will be on this blog.
SAFE HOUSE is an up-market rehab that follows the AA and NA 12 step programme and is eminently suitable for the patronage of the middle class.
